BBFC and the Video Recordings Act 1984
Normal Shoes masters and manufactures discs on behalf of filmmakers, production companies, festivals and educational institutions. Unless a customer chooses our Retail-ready service, discs are supplied on the basis that they are for private, archival, submission or non-commercial use. They are not classified by the BBFC and are clearly marked as such.
Under UK law, video works sold, hired or otherwise supplied to the public on disc must usually be classified by the BBFC and labelled accordingly. If you plan to sell or distribute your film to the public, choose our Retail-ready service, and we will manage BBFC submission and labelling for you. Classification fees are charged at cost.
Every order requires a signed Order Declaration. We may decline or pause any order where the intended use appears to require classification.
Order declaration
Please read BBFC and the Video Recordings Act 1984 above before completing this declaration.

Intended use
Tick every use that applies.
A. Private — for my own archive or portfolio, or to give free of charge to cast, crew, family or friends.
B. Submission & screening — for festivals, competitions, awards, or screening at a licensed venue.
C. Trade / institution — supplied to a production company, distributor, broadcaster, university or similar organisation, and not for sale or hire to the public.
D. Public sale or hire — to be sold, hired or distributed to the public (online, in shops, at screenings or events).
Public sale or hire requires BBFC classification. We'll handle this through our Retail-ready service — BBFC fees are charged at cost (2026 standard rate £9.66 per minute, £96.60 minimum for works under 10 minutes, plus £50 transcode and £36.86 packaging, all ex VAT).
I want the Retail-ready service with BBFC classification.
I confirm that
The information above is accurate, and the discs will be used only as ticked.
Unless I have chosen Retail-ready, I will not sell, hire, exchange or loan these discs for reward, or supply them to the public as part of any business.
Any copies I give away will be free of charge and not as part of a business or promotion.
I will not remove, cover or alter the "Not classified by the BBFC" marking, and I will not add any age-rating symbol.
If my plans change to include public sale or hire, I will tell Normal Shoes before distributing, so that classification can be arranged.
I own, or have permission to use, all rights in the film, including music, footage, artwork and performances, and I authorise Normal Shoes to reproduce it.
The film contains nothing unlawful.
Normal Shoes may decline or pause an order if the intended use appears to need BBFC classification.
